1. The delivered files should comply with the terms agreed upon in the quotation and printing assignment sent to the email address biuro@artispoligrafia.com in all key parameters (work format, number of pages in the publication and the number of colours).
2. The client takes full responsibility for all legal faults resulting in the content and form of the works and schematics delivered for printing including all infringement of third party rights.
3. All changes in the delivered materials made at request of the client require authorisation.
4. At request and subject to a surcharge ARTiS executes a certified digital colouristic proof.
The materials for printing may be delivered only in electronic format: in person on CD, DVD or flash USB memory, via email (for files lower than 20 MB) or onto a specified account on a FTP server.
In order to gain access to the FTP server we kindly ask you to contact us beforehand via email or telephone. Each and every time we kindly ask you for email information to the address dtp@artispoligrafia.com containing the file’s name along with its entry path.
The accepted file format
For the process or realisation we accept PDF composite files in the version not higher than 1.4 and compatible with Acrobat 5.0. One exception that applies is work conducted in Corel that needs to be saved in a version compatible with Acrobat 4.0. The availability of conducting work from open files should be consulted during the phase of quotation as it is directly connected with adding the labour costs of the dtp operator.
Work format
• The files should have cut markers unequivocally indicating the work format. The so-called bleed should also be taken account of, as it is the surplus of the graphics required in the further production processes. As standard we choose a 3 mm bleed for works cut to pieces on the binding guillotine and a 5 mm bleed for works cut with the use of a cutting die. All work compiled into PDF files has to be centred. Please pay attention to the following: art-box (composition field), trim-box (extent of the printable area), bleed-box (extent with the bleed), media-box (the page with the markers) which are not displayed by a standard Adobe Reader and precisely those parameters are an additional influence to the correct positioning of the work in the further processing.
• The work should be delivered in the shape of single offcuts on the page (without flies). Our CtP studio does the imposition on the printing sheet.
• In the case of multi-page documents we prefer one file with offcuts placed in order in which they are to be placed in the final publication. More complicated work as book covers for spine gluing, dust jackets or work compiled from pages of different formats should be prepared as ready-made assembly or each and every time consulted at the stage of quotation.
• If the given assignment requires the use of a cutting die then the schematic of such a cutting die needs to be inserted in the file as an object printed in another colour to the printed elements of the project. The schematic of the cutting die has to be placed in the centre of the page and the composition field needs to be adjusted to this schematic.
Raster graphics (bitmap)
• To achieve the best outcome we recommend preparing bitmaps in the 300 dpi resolution. Resolutions lower than 250 dpi may result in lack of definition or noticeable jagged elements of the image.
• Raster graphics in the document may not contain pressed colour profiles (ICC).
• We recommend the use of lossless ZIP compression.
Colour space
• The work sent in for printing should be prepared as a composite in the CMYK colour space. The quantity of possible spot colours different to the process colours should be in line with the order. In case of printing only with process colours all spot colours should be converted to CMYK colour space.
• Providing materials containing elements in a colour space different to CMYK (e.g. EGB, CIElab and/or others) or in spot colours not included in the order will result in a conversion to process colours which may not be in line with the requirements of the client. Any discrepancy in this case is not ground for a complaint.
• Please do not supply the ICC colour profiles to the files. Their accidental use may cause change in the colour scheme during the RIP even in elements in the CMYK space as well as incorrect emulation or incorrect cycling of elements containing transparency. Most of these effects is invisible on the monitor
Fonts
• All fonts used in the work should be embedded in the document.
• The alternative to attaching a full description of the fonts for the document is the conversion of the fonts into vector illustrators (also: curves or paths).
Other
• In the case of creating a publication with a glued cover please contact us during the phase of preparation for printing in order to specify the width of the spine of the book which depends on both the number of pages as well as type of the used paper.
• Essential elements of the work should not be placed nearer to the edge of the page than 5 mm.
• Please take note of technological limitation concerning elements transferring from one page to the adjacent page in multi-page perfect-bound glued publications as well as effectively smaller page width due to lack of possibility to open it fully.
• In glue binding the margins on the side of book spine for internal pages of the cover and external pages of the inset are wider than others due to lateral gluing which takes up a 7 mm wide strip.
• As far as packaging is concerned the places destined to be glued need to have no graphic elements and a 3 mm margin has to be observed.
• In the case of multi-page stitched publications (saddle stitching) in order to minimise the growth of the spine we apply a spine indentation. By decreasing the width of the page the more the closer it is to the centre of the centrefold we retain permanent external margins in the publication. If there are elements in the work that transfer from page to page we forgo this procedure, as then there is an occurrence of ragged external margins.
• Minimal spread is 0,2 pt and choke is 0,5 pt.
• The software used by the company stores information regarding spot colours, inscriptions and traps in the client’s source files. Please note that black objects (>98% K) are printed automatically.
• For black objects in the work only using the black (K) colour will give a neutral black colour, however it will be low saturated. To achieve a high-saturated black colour we apply a combination of all process colours (recommended C 50% M 40% Y 40% K 100%).
• The top ink limit for coated papers is 320% and for uncoated 280%.
• During the phase of separating objects to the CMYK space we recommend using a profile assigned to the paper onto which the work is going to be printed according to the 12647-2 norm.
• The set increase of raster points should be in accordance with the ISO 12647.
